OWEN (available)

Visit Owen's Photo Album

Owen is a stunning and very tall german shepherd/wolf mix recently arrived to Howling Woods. He is approximately a year and a half old. Owen is timid around strangers and large groups of people, but warms up after some treats. He is very laid back and walks very well on a leash. He knows a few tricks such as sit, lay down, and paw. Owen would do fine in a home with a companion dog and playmate for him, or on his own. He is good inside and in the car, you just need a car large enough that can fit him!

Owen is food aggressive with other dogs and must be fed seperately. Owen is part wolf and not legal to have as a pet in many States.

If you are interested in Owen, please read our adoption requirements, submit an application, or contact us by calling (732) 534-5745. However, before you complete the adoption application, read the adoption requirements first at http://howlingwoods.org/adoption_requirements.html. Owen can go to a home where he is an only dog.

ATHENA (adopted)

Visit Athena's Photo Album

Athena is a stunning husky/shepherd mix with soulful brown eyes and a sweet disposition. She is shy and uncertain when meeting new people, but responds well to gentle handling and affection. Realize that when she lost her home, she lost faith in life-long relationships. She will make a great companion for walks, hikes and quiet evenings if provided with confidence building routines and TLC.

She is house-trained, gets along well with some dogs, and wants to please anyone willing to take the time to earn her trust. She knows basic commands and then some, including “speak”. She will bark at passing aggressive dogs on walks, but responds to “leave it” as she would much rather continue on with her trusted person/persons.

She is not a high energy girl, but is up to the challenge of a brisk walk or jog. She would prefer to bond a single person, couple, or small quiet family. No busy households with young children or out-of-control dogs. Will not need a companion dog, but should meet any dogs in the home before adoption. Overall quick impression, Athena is quiet and ladylike.

If you are interested in Athena, please read our adoption requirements, if qualifed submit an application, or contact us by calling (732) 534-5745. However, before you complete the adoption application, read the adoption requirements first at http://howlingwoods.org/adoption_requirements.html.

STORM (adopted)

Visit Storm's Photo Album

Storm is a beautiful and energetic female husky. She is originally from a horrendous hoarding situation in Kentucky, where more than half of the dogs found penned together starved to death. Due to there tragic upbringing, she is shy at first but bonds and warms up quickly . Storm also has a very high prey drive and would not be good with small dogs or cats. She does get along with other dogs her size that can withstand her version of play.

Storm loves to go for walks and play outside, and does very well inside the house. She usually lays down and quietly relaxes. She knows basic commands such as sit and is learning how to walk on a leash without pulling. She would do best with an active owner willing to walk or run her everyday to accommodate for her high energy needs.

If you are interested in Storm, please read our adoption requirements, if qualifed submit an application, or contact us by calling (732) 534-5745. However, before you complete the adoption application, read the adoption requirements first at http://howlingwoods.org/adoption_requirements.html.

HUNTER (adopted)

Hello! My name is Hunter and I am a one year old wolf malamute mix. I am a little shy, but still in the learning process. I really love other dogs and play time! Lately, I have been learning to walk on a leash and basic commands. And guess what? It only took me one day to learn how to sit and down! I haven't had much training or socialization before, so this is all new to me. I always try my best to please, and if you have a treat I will do anything! While I am really eager for more direction, what I really want is a nice cozy place to call home.

Hunter is part wolf and not legal to have as a pet in many States.

LAUREL (available)

Visit Laurel's Photo Album

Laurel is a spayed female Alaskan Malamute mix who has come a long way since her rescue from a hoarder in Tennessee. With little to no socialization for most of her life, Laurel was feral. The human touch was bizarre and scary to her, as she had never been acclimated to the company of people. Even then, it was clear there was a small light of hope for her to live amongst people. She showed a lot of potential, and over time, Laurel has come to love affection and petting, specifically butt scratches! One of her favorite things to do is go for long walks and hikes.

Laurel's journey of progress does not end here, and she needs someone who can accompany her in this path of acceptance and love. More info coming soon.
