   For Adoption

GRIZZ (available)

Visit Grizz's Photo Album

Grizz is a beautiful and very affectionate German Shepherd/Malamute mix. He is approximately one year old, up to date on shots, and neutered. Grizz is very outgoing and loves attention, but due to his high energy he would do best with an active owner that enjoys jogging, hiking, biking, or other outdoor activities. He does jump, but he is in the process of learning to keep all four feet on the ground.

Grizz is great with other dogs and loves to play with toys. He walks great on a leash and knows how to sit. Please no small pets or small dogs as Grizz has a strong prey drive. He would also need at least a 6 foot tall fence.

If you are interested in Grizz, please read our adoption requirements, submit an application, or contact us by calling (732) 534-5745. However, before you complete the adoption application, read the adoption requirements first at http://howlingwoods.org/adoption_requirements.html. Owen can go to a home where he is an only dog.

REMUS (available)

Visit Remus's Photo Album

Remus is a handsome, adolescent two year old husky/shepherd male with parti eyes and strong husky genes.

He will need husky experienced, adult owners who enjoy the outdoor lifestyle with a doggy companion. He would NOT thrive living in the background of an active, over-scheduled family, with cats, and small pets.

Remus is smart ( knows basic commands like, sit and speak) and competitive. He could easily learn dog sports, like, mushing, skijoring and bike hiking. Treadmill training is an option to burn off excess energy before leaving for work. In simple words, Remus is a high energy dog who responds well to a balance of exercise and consistent leadership. Rough play is too stimulating and leads to his mouthing.

Remus is house-trained and not known to be destructive, but he needs work. He needs owners who understand and can tend to his energy requirements. He is much more than a stunning dog with beautiful eyes. He has the potential to be an outstanding companion.

When stressed Remus will bite, and has bitten his previous owners and one of our volunteers. If you are a patient owner who understands and respects canine behaviour, you will love this animal.

If you are interested in Remus, please read our adoption requirements, if qualifed submit an application, or contact us by calling (732) 534-5745. However, before you complete the adoption application, read the adoption requirements first at http://howlingwoods.org/adoption_requirements.html.

KIRA (available)

Visit Kira's Photo Album

Kira is a beautiful 4 year old German Shepherd / Siberian Husky mix. She is a little shy around men in particular, but warms up very quickly to both men and women. Kira loves to play with other dogs and would need a companion her size, preferably male, that can withstand her version of play. Due to her high energy, she would do great with an active owner that enjoys jogging, hiking, biking, or other outdoor activities. Kira is currently learning how to walk on a leash without pulling. She has not had much training, but she is very intelligent and open to learning and picks up very quickly. She has learned a few commands such as sit, paw, and other paw.

Kira is an escape artist, and will need a secure outdoor enclosure to safely contain her. She has not had much experience inside, so we are not sure how she would be as an indoor dog. Please no small pets or small dogs, Kira has a strong prey drive.

If you are interested in Kira, please read our adoption requirements, if qualifed submit an application, or contact us by calling (732) 534-5745. However, before you complete the adoption application, read the adoption requirements first at http://howlingwoods.org/adoption_requirements.html.

OWEN (available)

Visit Owen's Photo Album

Owen is a stunning and very tall german shepherd mix who has recently arrived to Howling Woods. He is approximately a year and a half old. Owen is timid around strangers and large groups of people, but warms up very quickly after some treats. He is very laid back and walks well on a leash. He knows a few tricks such as sit, lay down, and paw. He would do best in a home as a single dog, as he is food aggressive with other dogs and would need to be fed seperately. He is good inside and in the car, you just need a car large enough that can fit him!

Please no small pets such as cats or small dogs.

LAUREL (adopted)

Visit Laurel's Photo Album

Laurel is a spayed female Alaskan Malamute mix who has come a long way since her rescue from a hoarder in Tennessee. With little to no socialization for most of her life, Laurel was feral. The human touch was bizarre and scary to her, as she had never been acclimated to the company of people. Even then, it was clear there was a small light of hope for her to live amongst people. She showed a lot of potential, and over time, Laurel has come to love affection and petting, specifically butt scratches! One of her favorite things to do is go for long walks and hikes.

Laurel's journey of progress does not end here, and she needs someone who can accompany her in this path of acceptance and love. More info coming soon.
